CMH Revelstoke: The freeride mecca for heliskiing in Canada
Not every heliskier wants to spend a week isolated in the wilderness. CMH therefore also offers heliskiing with a small-town flair. And not just anywhere, but in Canada’s freerider hotspot, the powder paradise of Revelstoke.
„CMH Revelstoke enjoys a legendary reputation among snowboarders and skiers. The historic railroad town on the Columbia River is home to some 7,000 residents, an estimated 6,999 of whom are passionate skiers. In winter, everything in Revelstoke revolves around the white glory that falls from the sky in incredible quantities: 18 meters of snow fall in the Monashees and Selkirks around Revelstoke, transforming the almost 1600 square kilometer area of CMH into a white paradise.
CMH Revelstoke – a place lives Heli Skiing
Glaciers of massive proportions, high alpine open slopes and magnificent forest runs characterize the area, which lies between 900 and 3,000 meters high and can be quickly reached by helicopter from Revelstoke or with the help of a van shuttle from other launch sites outside the city. Even in bad weather conditions, pilots and guides can almost always find good slopes in Revelstoke. In Revelstoke, CMH offers classic heliskiing in Canada with large groups of eleven people, but also exclusive private programs with a Bell 407 exclusively available to four guests.
What makes CMH’s Revelstoke base absolutely unique, is its location in the middle of town. Guests stay at the Regent In, which offers not only highly comfortable rooms, but also a top restaurant with super steaks. Heli lodging is quick and easy to get to. Unlike many remote lodges, the Internet connection is also optimal, which is important for many guests.
Even those who have an (unfounded) fear of cabin fever at a lonely lodge are in good hands in Revelstoke. After heliskiing you can go out in Revelstoke, visit restaurants and pubs or just go shopping.
Revelstoke is also perfect for combining heliskiing with a normal skiing vacation. While some go heliskiing, the others can enjoy themselves in the Revelstoke ski area. In the evening everyone is together again. Revelstoke Mountain Resort is located right on the edge of town. It is ideal for all skill levels even for a heliskiing warm-up. At 1,713 meters, the challenging ski area ultimately offers the greatest elevation gain of any ski resort in North America.“
North America is not all burgers, steaks and fries! Many Asians live in western Canada. That’s why there are also many Asian restaurants in the winter sports resorts. One of the top addresses in the mountains of BC is Kawakubo in Revelstoke. The locals‘ favorite Japanese restaurant has been offering top sushi at top prices for over ten years and is located right across the street from the CMH Hotel.
